Glamour TV: Tressed To Impress Episode 04

Today's new episode of Glamour TV's Tressed To Impress by Herbal Essence was released. The girls, Kellene, Jessie, and Alana got a message in a bottle that hinted that "dressing to impress" was the theme of the day for the last challenge. The winner receives $10,000 shopping spree and a chance to represent Herbal Essences on the pages of Glamour Magazine.

The ladies showed up at the 10Eleven show room and a runway was set up with models fiercely strutting runway fashions. The goal was to take high fashion and incorporate into every day looks. Each girl got 2 models, a hair and makeup person, 4 racks of clothing and 60 minutes.
My favorite look was definitely by Kellene, her styles were fierce and she took runway pieces and made them translate to a day or night look seamlessly… so this time I totally agreed with the judges choice:

This was Kellene's first look. I loved the way she paired the boots with the bag and the outfit. Each piece fit perfectly as far as length and size with the skirt, plus the jacket and belt was a perfect mesh.

I loved this look! The dress and belt were perfect and the long pontyail style was classic. This could be for day or night easily.

Next week is the last episode and a winner will be chosen… .Go Kellene! Like This? Love This? Let me know!

Going Green Doesn't Mean The Death of A Fashionista....

Today is Earth Day and even though I celebrate ever year, for some reason this year is really close to my heart. If you know me you know that this year I started creating homemade facial masks, stopped using plastic bags from the grocery store, got my electricity bill down to $100 this month, and I am transitioning to a green but fashionable lifestyle this year. Why?

1. Going Green Doesn't Mean The Death of a Fashionista! I want to prove to the world that going green doesn't mean that I have to be barefoot in the park... sooo, I'm still going to wear fingernail polish, drive a car (sorry no bus rides for me…it’s too hot in Arizona), and covet Jimmy Choos, but I think fashionistas can balance that out without losing themselves.

2. My first name, Tierra, actually means Earth in Spanish and I feel a little guilty about not living up to my name!

3. I really am trying to save money by getting rid of paper towels, changing the light bulbs, and other things. Each seems to have worked out to my advantage. I actually just started to feel the economy personally last month...

Anyway.. that's my "green" speech! To celebrate Earth Day here are my top 5 favorite things... from fashionable technology to fab green accessories:

Project Earth Day Eco Fashion Show

Sainsbury Recycled Plastic Collection

Zoe & Zac Eco Friendly Shoes and Accessories at Payless

The Upcoming PeaPod by Chrysler

TMobile Sidekick LX: Style Meet Technology

Recently a fashion blogger friend (Jordana from Clutch 22) of mine sent me a great lead about the new T Mobile Sidekick LX launching in exactly 22 days as she was on her way to New York to check it out. Being a technology and fashion gal... I had to see what she was raving about.

But first, let's reminisce on the top 3 T-Mobile Sidekick fashion moments that made us fall in love with the most famous celebrity cell phone in the first place:

Number 3: Sidekick Bling

Not sure when it started, but adding crystals to a T-Mobile sidekick changed the game. All of a sudden everyone wanted to bling out their phones... but unfortunately... nothing looks as good as the Sidekick and Swarovski Crystals…no matter how hard you try…and trust me I’ve tried.

Number 2: Celebrity Style Wars

Celebrities love to be the first to have it all. Famous people who carry Sidekicks today? How about Hillary Duff, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, and Rachel Bilson.... just to name a few.

Number 1 Sidekick Moment.. (drum roll please): Paris Hilton Sidekick Hack

Remember back in 2005 when Parish Hilton's Sidekick was hacked and all the dirty details were leaked and posted on the internet? The Queen of making accessories out of the most unlikely things was probably the poster child for fashion and technology... believe it or not, the incident made the Sidekick even more famous..

So what can you expect from the new Sidekick LX?

Social Networking Galore
One of my biggest frustrations about cell phones is the slow updating to my social media websites. I want to post what I'm doing as I'm doing... not afterwards. T-Mobile introduces 3G enabled Social Networking Apps that let you network and interact with friends on the go.

GPS for the rest of us
Okay.. I can't go anywhere without my GPS. I get lost everywhere I go. Actually, me and my good friend Tammar actually have an in car reality tv show (imaginary of course) that showcases all our driving mishaps.... and boy do we have a lot of them. T-Mobile introduces live search, assisted directions, and geotagging of your images.

Looking Good
My last favorite feature has to do with style. No one wants to carry around a phone anymore that doesn't look great. The new Sidekick LX will be the thinnest with the largest screen and an amazing 3.2 MP camera with autofocus and flash.

Check out the features for yourself and also check out Jordana's post over at Clutch 22 to get all the details. Like This? Love This? Let me know!

The KeyBag by Joao Sabino

I'm still getting through Elle Magazine's April Issue. I kind of have this thing where I read each of my fashion magazines cover to cover each month, but in order of my least favorite to favorite. Elle Magazine comes close to the end because it's one of my favorite magazines.

Today, while reading, I noticed on the Get The Look page in the bottom right corner was the Keybag by Joao Sabino. It's utterly fab and chic at $168... I instantaneously had to blog it (that's how you know something is great.. .when you run to the computer to write about it). Want it? Well, You can purchase the bag at www.joaosabino.pt. Like This? My Best Friend Tiffany & Co. Joins The Social Media Age

I love Tiffany. I met her when I was about 12 years old. I was flipping through my mom's Vogue and I saw it... a beautiful ring by Tiffany. Tiffany and I aren't on the greatest terms right now. You see, when I got married I really wanted her as my Maid of Honor, but financially, it just wasn't feasible.

Well, fashion and technology have put Tiffany back in my good graces because after 172 years Tiffany is joining the age of social media. Tiffany and Co. now officially has their own Facebook Fan Page and as of today has over 128,000 fans!

From browsing the Tiffany & Co. fan page here are my favorite moments (yes, I said moments):

1. Video of an Interview with Paloma Picasso... A Must Watch!!

2. Fan photo of a romantic gesture by Rommelln Fisher... so romantic.

3. Images of stacked Tiffany Celebration Rings from Tiffany and Co.
I love it when the Fashion Gods open up a few doors so we can get a look inside. Oh and I'm on Facebook Too! Like This? Love This? Let me know!

Behind The Scenes: VMarie Prive' Fall 2009 Collection

This week I had the pleasure of going behind the scenes as VMarie owner Rickie Gonzales prepared for his VMarie Prive' Fall 2009 Show coming up this Saturday. The VMarie Prive' Fall 2009 Collection is a turning point for Rickie, who is known as one of the hottest designers in Arizona. Not only is he showcasing his Fall collection, but he is introducing the launch and mass production of the VMarie Newport Resort 2010 Collection, a first for the growing company.

However, through it all, Rickie stays grounded and focused, never letting the fame get to his head and always taking care of those next to him. My first stop on my behind the scenes journey was the VMarie model casting call. I enjoyed meeting the VMarie staff and getting an inside look at Rickie’s design process.

Vivienne Tam HP Mini - Final Journey Part 1

So, last week was my final days of documenting my journey with the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition. This stylish and affordable laptop has given me so much joy... I know it sounds corny, but I've never enjoyed a piece of technology as much as I have enjoyed using, carrying around, and gadetizing with my HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition. To end my journey HP was kind enough to send me to New York during Fashion Week and not only let me meet Vivienne Tam and view some gorgeous clothes...but meet other women bloggers that have taken this journey with me.

My first stop was Phoenix, Arizona airport, unfortunately I still had to work so getting a wi-fi signal was very important. The HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition picked up the airport signal immediately and I was connected within a few clicks. I was able to work from the airport and easily turn off my wifi on the plane so I could watch iTunes movies, play games, etc...

After settling into our hotel, our next stop was the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition bloggers from across the country got together for a New York City Tour. It was my first time in New York so I really enjoyed the city, especially being surrounded by great company.

That night it was time to meet Vivienne Tam at her boutique for a fashion show and cocktail party afterwards! I was sooo excited I didn't know what to do! I wasn't sure if we were going to be able to actually talk to her, but boy was I in for a surprise for the entire trip. Not only would we be able to see Vivienne Tam but we were able to talk to her, take pictures, and the week would reveal that Vivienne Tam would be involved in our trip in a way no one even expected....

Stay tuned for the rest of my final journey... until then you can view all my images on Flickr or read more from the other Vivienne Tam bloggers:

Technology and Fashion Combine as Mannequins take over New York?

Sony really pulled out all the stops with the "Mannequins take to the street" campaign. The company partnered with six different fashion designers that outfitted mannequins what will be up for view in various parts of Manhattan.

Each mannequin is dressed by a fashion designer, will be displayed until Valentine's Day, and each mannequin is holding the Sony VAIO P-Series Lifestyle PC , the worlds lightest most stylish 8" notebook.

The featured designers include threeASFOUR, Elise Overland, Katy Rodriguez, Libertine. So far the "exhibit" has been up at a number of places in New York including:

  • Grand Central Station on January 30th
  • Dinner and Drinks in The Lower Eastside on Jan 31st
  • Midtown & Union Square on Feb 5th
  • Chelsea on Feb 6th
  • Meatpacking District on Feb 7th
If you are in New York and you missed it...never fear:
  • Today, Feb 11th in Midtown
  • Tomorrow, Feb 12th at the Rockefeller Center
  • Feb 13th and 14th at Bryant Park during Fashion Week
Talk about an amazing campaign.. I'm not in New York and won't be there until the 17th, so I'll miss it. But if any of my readers go.. I'd love to hear from you.

Vivienne Tam HP Mini Days 3 thru 5

I'm still out on the road with the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition and it's been a really cool journey. This weekend was really fun, I'm still working with Retailing Together and Phoenix Fashion Week this month, getting some great content for both of their websites.

Hilda and Jazzy @ Classy Jazzy Boutique

My first stop was with at a boutique called Classy Jazzy in the heart of old town Scottsdale, AZ to interview Hilda for Retailing Together.com. The owner, Hilda, owns the boutique and named it after her dog, Jazzy. Jazzy was sooo cute, and to be honest, the real diva of the show! Jazzy had on a t-shirt that said... "I'm kinda a big deal around here"! Classy Jazzy sells some amazing jewelry and accessories for dogs, and Hilda, a huge Obama fan was very optimistic about the economy... not to mention being obsessed with fashion. She loved the HP Mini and thought it would fit perfectly with her store decor.

My next stop for Retailing Together was in Tempe, AZ at Tempe Marketplace with Eric Torres. Eric is the genius owner of Different Trends, a website that represents a number of emerging designers. Eric, a fashion techie himself, loved the Vivienne Tam laptop, all he wanted to know was if it had built in wi-fi... Of course!

Me interviewing Eric Torres, owner of Different Trends

I also made stop to interview Katie from Garage Boutique a The Mix shopping center in Scottsdale, AZ. I loved the boutique, it was full of grown up luxury clothes for kids. The Mix Shopping center was amazing.. each and every store inside was handpicked by the owners.

Me and Katie of Garage Boutique chatting it up in the Twizzler's corner

Lastly, I spent the rest of the weekend at Phoenix Fashion Week's Apparel for Success workshops. I really enjoyed this job because I got to interview creative designers who were just getting their lines started and were looking for resources to help them succeed. Definitely a fun day for me and the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition...

I fell in love with a few more features this weekend. First, it fits absolutely perfect in my purse. Everyone else pulling out laptops had this huge bulky thing (like I used to), and it was just heavy and cumbersome for them. Also, The HP mini is a great networking tool... talk about attention! Everyone wanted to know where I got it from, what it does... I actually made a few business connections with it.

Stay tuned for more... Like This? Love This? Let me know!

Carry your gadgets with style using CareerBags.com accessories

I LOVE IT WHEN I STUMBLE ACROSS CUTE BAGS I can use to carry around my gadgets. Besides a laptop bag, being a fashion techie, I carry around a lot of things in my purse that sometimes get scratched up.

Yeah.. that's my purse! (click to image to zoom and read captions) It's a mess and it can get extremely heavy. It hurts my shoulder and it's just too much stuff in it on top of my gadgets. That's why when Career Bags contacted me and told me about their new Abbi NY Carrie Slim Carrier I was really excited. It has slim shoulder bag strap with ComfortGel, oriental print, external zipper for additional storage, and suede lining with protective padding. Now I just need to purge so I can have a lighter load!

Vivienne Tam HP Mini Day Two

So today I got to put the Vivienne Tam HP Mini to the real test! It was so exciting hearing what clients, and others had to say about the laptop... and it felt really good carrying it around.

First, I met up with Brian Hill (head of Phoenix Fashion Week) and the Phoenix Fashion Week (PFW) iReporting Team at Boston Gourmet Pizza in Tempe, AZ. We are getting ready for our big kick off for October 1-3 and are planning our strategy for getting the behind the scenes scoop with boutiques, designers, and other vendors before, during, and after PFW. I'm actually excited to be joining the team this year along with ASU's fashion writing club. The HP Mini really helped out at the meeting, I used it take notes, browse the internet and bookmark relevant links, and everyone was pretty much amazed.

Brian, Head of PFW

After the PFW iReporting meeting I headed to some local Scottsdale, AZ boutiques for in person interviews for RetailingTogether.com.

Me making sure recorder and HP Mini bluetooth was synced

This is a pretty fun job, I get to travel to trendy boutiques in the area and interview boutique owners about the economy, tradeshows, and fashion. The HP Mini really made my life easier (it even matched with all the handbags). First, I can use it to record my interviews directly, secondly, it's super light and easy to carry around and thirdly, the boutique owners really loved it. Patrice Mann, from Stefan Mann, who sells high end handbags, told me "If you get to meet Vivienne Tam in New York, tell her she really did a great job with this design!", and Danica Coral, from Pink House Boutique, was plotting to snatch it and run as I was leaving her store.

It's was a pretty great day, one thing I don't like about the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition, the webcam is really dark, but I have a few solutions for that, that I'll share later this week. Stay tuned!

Journey of a Pro Fashion Techie and her Vivienne Tam HP Mini: Day One

I've been writing about the Vivienne Tam HP Mini for the last 5 months. First I found out it due to be released, then I found out it was walking down New York runways, and then I started experimenting with gadgets and apps...planning the day when I would get one.

So, like a true fashionista, when the Hp Mini Vivienne Tam Edition arrived on my doorstep, I excitedly thought about how I was going to review it. I mean, I could do those boring laptop reviews like everyone else is doing, but this isn't a tech geek blog... this is a fashion based tech blog, and it's just not our style.

So, many people don't know this, but I own my own business, www.thefashiontechie.com, and I'm actually a full time fashion techie. Everyday, all day, I deal with fashion as it relates to technology, and this is the month long "Journey of a Pro Fashion Techie and her Vivienne Tam HP Mini."

Day One

So the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition arrived on my doorstep last week and today I took pictures of everything. I can't wait to take it with me to all my meetings, parties, and stuff this month. Of course, I expect some jaw dropping... I mean this thing is gorgeous! Anyway... here's the HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition before I opened it up... look how cute the mouse is!

In the box you the get the HP Mini, a small bag, a mouse, the charger, two Duracell batteries for the mouse, and the battery for the HP Mini.

However, the thing I love the most is the mouse. Inside of it is the small USB reciever. It's so cute and small! You just plug it into your HP mini, turn on the mouse, and voila! I love this because I'm not really finger clicking kind of girl, I like my mouse. It's a must have.

It also perfectly matches the HP digital clutch, so it's fashionable and resourceful.. exactly what I like.

It's really not a difficult device to use. It's simple and easy, Windows XP ready, web cam built in, and microphone built in. Here's a look at some of the basic features.

It also includes a SD Card Reader, 2 USB ports, expansion port, headphone and microphone jack, HP Mobile Drive indicator, and a security cable connector.

So stay tuned.. and we'll def see the response and give a real life road test! Like This? Love This? Let me know!

Top 4 Laptops for Fashionistas

This is a guest post by T.J Aaron from LaptopLogic.com - your guide to find a laptop that matches your outfit perfectly. Don't forget to check out their laptop reviews to get the pro's and con's for your laptop of choice.

Some laptop users care only about the features and functionality, seeing the machine as a tool and nothing else. For such people, there is always the venerable Lenovo ThinkPad which maintains an all-black design with little else on its stark exterior. Thankfully for the rest of us, there are some alternatives.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110

Yes we just picked on Lenovo for their strikingly black ThinkPad line, but their IdeaPad notebooks are thankfully not of the same vein. Sporting a decidedly Asian-theme, the IdeaPads are far more fashion-sensible than the "business-class" ThinkPads. The U110 sticks out here with its textured cover, featuring a highly intricate etched pattern. Even the bottom of the machine has stylish designs and you will find a striking black, glossy keyboard on the inside. Weighing 2.4 pounds and less than 1 inch thick, this 11 inch ultraportable will also probably fit in a medium-sized purse!

Dell Studio

In a bid to differentiate themselves from the competition, Dell recently began offering a new product line known as "Studio" and with them, a highly customizable design. Dell offers 7 different colors and a unique pattern with 4 trim color options, or a choice of over 100 artist designs which will adorn the back of the screen. You can even get these designs on a number of laptops ranging from a 13 inch ultraportable to a 17 inch multimedia powerhouse. The price varies mostly on the system, but expect the design to add about $75.

Tulip E-go

Tulip's line of style conscious laptops may not be specifically for fashionistas, but rather those who already have everything else. Their website looks nothing like your usual computer product website, instead reminding me of the website of a high end fashion designer. Starting at $5000, the E-go line of laptops offers something from everybody. The base model supports removable skins to customize to your taste, or you can up the ante with diamond-studded models that reach into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Do you own a Bentley? Then they've got you covered with a Bentley model as well.

Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve Edition

Wait, didn't we dish Lenovo in the beginning for having mainly plain black laptops? The ThinkPad Reserve is another of those plain black models, based on a high end ThinkPad X61s, but with an "exclusive" leather cover surrounding the machine. It was originally launched with intents of being an exclusive, executive-class machine with the appeal of a high end piece of luggage, costing $3000. But with the flop in sales, you can now find this rather capable laptop at bargain basement prices under $2000 from various e-retailers. At launch in mid-2007 it was also touted to have "executive-class" services that went above and beyond the standard warranty, but we're not sure if that is still valid considering the line was dropped.
